My dream job: optician
At the age of 15, I already knew that that I wanted to be an optician. The problem was that as a girl, I could not get an apprenticeship position because the field was reserved for guys back then. So I initially went to a secondary school and when I was 17 – and already in the seventh grade – I discovered an ad of an optician in Salzburg looking for a female apprentice. My time had finally come! After three and a half years as an apprentice, I passed the apprenticeship certification exam and after five more years working at the job, I passed the master craftsman's examination. That made this job even more interesting because I also learned a lot about the medical background. You have to work with the utmost precision in this job.
My work at Silhouette International
I manage the in-house shop of Silhouette. This is where all employees and their families can shop. But that is only a small part of my real work. I am also responsible for the so-called sizing tests, meaning that I test new models in everyday life to see if everything fits together, if the temples have the right length, if the different distances are okay and the like. I am also in charge of workshops, drive to shootings and supervise opticians, distributors and our partner countries.
The coolest thing about it
I have so many different fields of activity: customers, workshop, cooperation with research, technology and product management! And another really cool thing: I also attend the shootings and get to meet many interesting people there that I would otherwise never meet.
